Programs for Men who Have Sex with Men
The hepatitis B virus (HBV) is easily transmitted through blood and body fluids. The majority of reported cases of acute HBV in San Francisco in the last 10 years have been in Men who have sex with men (MSM). MSM are at increased risk for hepatitis A and B. That’s why the San Francisco Department of Public Health, the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association, and the CDC recommend vaccination against both of these serious diseases.
To address the low immunization rates for hepatitis A and B among MSM, the Health Department has partnered with and organized several outreach programs, targeting MSM.
